Town support Time to Talk Day
Today, the Club and the Foundation are supporting Time to Talk Day, an annual day of awareness dedicated to encouraging conversations around mental health.
The Club is proud to work with partners, including Combat2Coffee and Suffolk Mind, with the latter highlighted at their dedicated matchday; Town’s game against Manchester City in January.
Ipswich Town Foundation provides a range of sessions and activities designed to support those who may be struggling with their mental health, loneliness and social isolation.
One of those sessions is Talk Club, a speaking and listening club for men, offering talking groups, sports groups and therapy to help keep people mentally fit.
The Ipswich Town Talk Club is hosted at Portman Road every Tuesday evening, led by Talk Club Captain, Joe Thomson. Those interested in attending can find out more by contacting Joe at joe.thomson1@gmail.com.
With suicide the leading killer of men under 50, Talk Club encourages men to come together and discuss their mental health, starting the sessions by asking ‘How are you? Out of 10?’. This approach makes talking about mental health more accessible, and encourages participants to speak openly.
In addition to Talk Club, the Foundation runs Senior Blues, a session designed to combat social isolation in people over 50 in Suffolk.
Social isolation is a prevalent issue in over 50s across the County, with over 130,000 residents of Suffolk feeling lonely at some point.
Senior Blues is an inclusive session for the older generation, providing an opportunity to socialise with likeminded people, and the chance to talk about their experiences as an Ipswich Town supporter.
The sessions take place in the Hall of Fame Restaurant at Portman Road every second and fourth Wednesday of each month, with more information available by contacting lauren.revill@itfcfoundation.co.uk.
