Foundation host Post-16 End of Season Awards Evening

Last Friday, the Foundation hosted the annual Post-16 Football and Education Programme Awards Evening in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite at Portman Road, celebrating the success of the students both on and off the pitch for the 2023/24 season.

This season the Post-16 programme consisted of five teams, men’s A to D teams and a women’s team. There were many highs to celebrate over the course of the season and each team awarded their Players’ Player of the Season and Managers’ Player of the Season. The women’s team had an additional award with the Opposition Player of the Year –  the winner selected by the opponents throughout the season.

There was the introduction of men’s and women’s Goal of the Season. Chosen by supports in a poll via Instagram, there was over 2,000 views on each of the eight goals selected and over 1,000 votes for both the Mens’ and Womens’ Award. Congratulations to Ryan Marsh and Phoebe Underhill on winning these awards.

Men’s and Women’s Top Goal Scorer awards were also awarded with the winners being Adam Wrathall and Keira Topple. The Club Person of the Year went to Sophie Carter who has shown a very good overall approach to the programme.

This year saw the introduction of a new award – Student of the Year. The award celebrates the academic success of a student with nominations from both Suffolk New College and Northgate Sixth Form. The winner was Freddie Attrill who has shown a good progression and transition since moving education provision to Suffolk New College.

“It was a fantastic evening, showcasing and applauding the strengths of the Post-16 programme,” Head of Education & Employability Robert Peace said.

“The students and staff have worked very hard throughout the season, and it was pleasing to see everyone come together to celebrate these achievements.

“It is always a bittersweet evening as it is a goodbye for the second-year students, and I wish them all success in the next steps of their lives both on and off the pitch.”
