In the build-up to World Mental Health Day, which is marked on Tuesday, 10 October, Town defender Elkan Baggott paid a visit to a Suffolk Mind session at Foundation partner school, Castle Hill Primary.
The session was focused on the importance of mental health, and the various factors that can have an impact on this.
As well as taking part in the session and engaging with the young children taking part, Elkan also hosted a Q&A, giving the youngsters an insight into how professional athletes look after their own mental health, and the different techniques such as meditation and visualisation that are relied on to achieve this.
Afterwards, Elkan stayed to have a discussion with the representatives from Suffolk Mind who had delivered the session, and spoke about the various standards in place within football to support players with their mental health.
“It was a really enjoyable session,” Elkan said.
“It’s so important that people know how to look after their mental health from a young age, and it’s brilliant to see Suffolk Mind and the Foundation driving this message into classrooms.”
“As recognised role models to children in local schools, it’s great to be able to attend sessions such as this and to play a part in getting young people talking about mental health.”
The Club will be showing its support to mental health on Saturday for Town’s fixture against Preston North End, which will be Suffolk Mind’s dedicated matchday.
