To mark International Women’s Day, the Foundation is highlighting Donna, a participant of our Adult Disability sessions.
International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women across the world.
Donna is a key member of the Foundation’s Adult Disability team, and is one of three female participants of the sessions, which are held at Portman Road on Monday and Thursday evenings.
“I’ve enjoyed myself like I always do,” said Donna, speaking after Monday night’s session. “I always look forward to coming.
“[The sessions] have helped me a lot. It’s helped me get back on my feet a bit.
“I think it’s very important to allow everybody to get involved. It doesn’t matter if you’re female or what your ability is, it’s just about coming and having fun.”
“Donna is great,” added Lee Smith, the Club’s Disability Liaison Officer who coaches the team.
“She’s one of only three females that we currently coach but she’s certainly part of the group. She’s very much involved, she’s a very talented footballer, and she doesn’t feel out of her depth.
“We need to be inclusive with everyone in mind in the wider community. The Foundation’s main aim is to be inclusive and to involve everyone in the community; male, female, young or old.
“We’ve got a very good level of participation with a very diverse group.”
