Foundation host CPD events

On Thursday evening last week, the Foundation were delighted to welcome first team coaches Charlie Turnbull and Lee Grant, along with support from Judah Davies and Richard Keogh, to Portman Road to lead a professional development session with our contracted and casual coaches.

The theme for the evening was creating the environment and developing the player. Charlie and Lee introduced the coaches in attendance to the theme, and the overall plan for the session before working through a variety of practical elements of the session.

The Foundation’s U16 JPL (Junior Premier League) girls team were coached by Charlie, Lee, Judah and Richard on the evening and thoroughly enjoyed their session. The girls went on to beat top of the league Bromley 2 days later, who had to that point been unbeaten all season.

Kirsty Guest, Workforce Development Officer, said “It was an insightful evening learning about the regimented sessions that the first team coaches conduct. I hope that it inspired both our contracted and casual coaches to provide top quality but also fun sessions at our centres.”

In addition to the above event, the Foundation also welcomed Alex Kaufman, Head of Academy Recruitment to Portman Road this week.

Alex took the Foundation’s contracted and casual coaches through the process of academy recruitment, the attributes the Academy are looking for in new players, how to identify individuals and any Safeguarding processes that need to be considered.

Mike Phillips, Head of Curriculum, said “The team at The Foundation are always keen to lean more and explore new ideas, and that is why making sure high quality CPD is available is key.

“I’d like to thank Alex Kaufman for his time and insight yesterday, everyone took a lot away from it and can now go and apply some new learning into their delivery.”
