Rene Gilmartin, Town’s Head of Goalkeeping, visited the Foundation’s EPDC goalkeeping sessions at Portman Road on Monday evening.
The big-hearted Irishman believes the work shown by the Foundation is just as important as success on the pitch.
“It truly is the heart of the community,” Rene told the Club website.
“I was stood there with the young goalkeepers on one pitch, the outfielders training on the other end of the pitch, and there was walking football next to us, a real mix of women, men and children with different nationalities, it’s brilliant.
“I think it’s important to have access like this, there are hard-working coaches dedicating their time to offer this service, it’s great to see.”
A whole range of sessions take place on the practice pitch at Portman Road on a Monday evening giving both children and adults the opportunity to play football. For more information on the Foundation’s activities, visit www.itfcfoundation.co.uk.
Rene added: “For us staff and players, we all remember being this age and just playing football, you don’t know if you’re going to make it to the top and play professionally, but the reality is we did and this is where it all comes from.”
